MAYNARD JAMES KEENAN Calls TOOL Fans 'Insufferable'
October 28, 2015According to The Pulse Of Radio, TOOL frontman Maynard James Keenan made a handful of eyebrow-raising comments in a new interview with the Phoenix New Times this week, just ahead of TOOL's only performance of 2015 at the Monster Mash Music Festival in Tempe, Arizona. Asked whether the band has a sense of humor that a lot of fans miss, Keenan replied: "Yeah, it's there, but people miss it because they're so focused on the other bullshit. It's lost. Insufferable people… It's just ridiculous, retards. I'm sorry. Can't help them. Way too serious. Too much. Lighten up."
Keenan told The Pulse Of Radio a while back that the lighter side of TOOL has always been there. "If people haven't noticed and picked up on the comedic side of TOOL by now, then they're just not paying attention," he said. "It's always been in there. All you've got to do is look at some past photos of prior tours. We were like the Peg Bundy and Tina Turner of rock."
It's been nine years since TOOL released its last album, 2006's "10,000 Days". The band has toured a number of times since its release but has apparently gotten serious about making a new record in the past year.
Guitarist Adam Jones revealed in July 2014 that lawsuits involving a former friend of the band and an insurance company had been putting a drag on the group both creatively and financially since 2007.
The ex-friend claimed that he was owed money for artwork he had given the group, while the insurance firm — which was supposed to protect the band against such claims — sued the band for "technicalities" regarding the case.
